Is there home entertainment software out there?

Question by Geno: Is there home entertainment software out there?
Buying a new computer for the home. I would like to use my old one as a media center controler conected to my HDTV that can download music and movies and also act as a recorder, replacing the VCR. Is there sofware out there that does all this? Any suggestions.

Windows XP Media Center
The software may allready be on your old computer. If it is you can start by buying a good sound card, (newer sound cards can even process digital audio).

You can even install a TV tuner card and use it with basic cable. Some card even ahave the HD tuner build into them,(ATSC Tuner) for offair HD. Make sure you can receive these stations before buying one of these cards. You might be wasting your money.

Allot of newer HDTV’s have a VGA input. You can upgrade this to if you want. I’m using a HDMI cable for my computer.

Hope I help. Let me know how things turn out.
