I want to build a computer base entertainment center where I can show DvD movies, play CD Music & play “A” few Games. I’ve built two computers from scratch without any help. Totally on my own\w the assistance of ONLY a PC-Builder’s Book, but building a entertainment computer is JUST a little bit more than I am familiar with at this time. I’m not sure what type of; Motherboard, hard drive, and other parts necessary for my entertainment center to purchase. At the present time, I ONLY have approximate $ 1,000.00 to start my build with. Any help would be appericated.

You will need the following.
1Gb RAM dual channel
Intel or AMD processor, your choice
256mb video card, ATI or GeForce, your choice again
motherboard. Make sure your motherboard is compatible to the type of CPU you pick. Also check the cpu socket and the memory speed.
DVD rom. You can burn your own DVDs if you want to. Buy known brands. The spinner of 3rd party roms can melt and get your cd/DVD stuck and/or sticky on the center. I still haven’t figured out how to clean them off. Buy a known brand.
HD. 7200 RPM is good for you. Size is your preference. You want to play or store movies and songs. Also, I suggest SATA cable type because of its high data transfer.
A good case.
Power Supply Unit is important to determine how long you want to keep your internals. Buy a case without a PSU, then buy a PSU from antec.

Things will get expensive, but it will be close to $ 1000.
Newegg.com is a good online source to buy electronics. Look at the reviews to determine how good it is.
