Question by ieatyouz: Sub-00 home/entertainment PC that can decently handle today’s games?
I’m not looking for a computer strictly for gaming (maybe I wouldn’t mind a Dell XPS) but I’m looking for more of a home/entertainment PC under $ 1000 that can handle today’s PC games (for example Crysis) at a “good enough” speed on middle to low settings.

The HP Media Center I’m using right now costed about $ 1300 when it was bought about 3 or 4 years ago, and looking at the specs vs prices on PCs today, this piece of crap would definitely not be worth the price (1.5gb ram, 300gb hd, shitty nvidia gpu)

For that, you can probably afford:

1 TB Hard Drive
4-8 GB Ram
2-4 core 2.2-2.4 Ghz Processor
NVidia 250 GTX

depending on where you go between the RAM and processor, you can vary the computer case, but that is also only if you are looking at Hardware and install your own OS

If you want to enjoy it – get Apple TV – 160gb version for $ 400. If you want to “fiddle” with it all the time – get Mac Mini.

Julian – I use the Buffalo LinkTheater for this interaction and love it. The device can play iTunes content, Yahoo! Music Engine files (via Windows Media Connect), mpg, wmv, h.264 and a host of other compressions.

I’d like to be able to keep this PC in my entertainment center and connect it to my TV to watch movies/play music without having to connect my laptop to the tv. I would like to be able to access media from the server on my laptops, as well as control the server to play movies on the TV from the laptop.

I am thinking of buying a Sony Vaio VGX TP1E home media pc to play movies, music and photos on my tv. I already have a ps3 and an Xbox 360 elite, which also have the ability to stream movies, music and photos. I am wondering whether buying the Vaio would be a waste of money. If i buy it it will be hooked up to my tv via hdmi, just as the Xbox and ps3 could be. Can someone please tell me whether it is a worthwhile purchase, or just a waste of money.

The type of connection is open. HDMI would be best but it might have to be DVI if I don’t find video card with HDMI.
I’m hoping to control each television individually.

depending on your connection type?? vga ?? hdmi? dvi?? S-video? anyways the make products called distribution amplifiers you need a 1 by 2 D.A. of whatever product you will be useing.. i dont know if there are anyone that deals this product localy but i suggest kramer electronics products..

Trying to figure out if we are underpriced. Our margins are really tight. We have 15 employees. Trying to determine if our margins are out of line with the amount of work we throw into it.

Your margins should in all honesty be negative. You are competing against people who work from their homes and thus not only have no office overhead, but get a tax break on a part of their rent. Not to mention the industrious near-shore and off-shore developers…

If you want to see if you are underpriced, post a couple of dummy projects on Craig’s List in your area and ask people to send you their rates.
